HOW TO COLOR A STAMPED OR DIGI IMAGE

I get lot queries about coloring and the medium i use,so thought of giving a tutorial here. Its a very simple one without much technical details, hope it will be useful to you all.

So,this is all you need.,..a stamped or digi image, watercolor pencils(i use steadler),a 0size brush and a cup of water.

There are two ways, using either a light, medium, dark shades or using paper white as the lightest shade.I use a medium n dark color here and use paper white,..this gives some lighter tones, where as if you need the coloring to be dark use light, medium and dark shades of same color.

First use the light color n fill half of the picture, not filling type just give strokes as it will be nice for the pleats of the dressed. Then take the darker color n give strokes only in the edges,..
Then take the brush, dip it in water, drain the excess water and merge the colors,..it will be really nice to see the colors blend:))
For hair i used light orange, medium n dark brown.
For hair, give strokes both the sides,..that is from upside and down leaving the paper white in the middle.Start with orange, the medium brown,.and very little amount of dark brown in the edges.

For skin here i used skin tone n medium orange,or you can use light orange n light brown or light brown and dark brown,.
Fill the skin parts with skin tones,n colors the edges with orange.

So this the finished one,..in the same manner do the shoes n other parts.I have used some glitter pen for the frills,..or you can use glitters also.

Sorry for the poor photographs,i always find difficult to photograph tiny things.Hope you understood the basics,..if any doubt shoot me a mail to kavi_kalalayaa@yahoo.co.in

Tips to remember:
  • Don't sharp your colors pencils too much as i will end up in breakage,if u need a sharp edge to color small parts then use a knife to sharpen the pencil,.or the your total pencil will go off with in a day.
  • If you are using a digi,be careful while giving the water washan the black will come out.So better don't go over the black lines
  • Finally,if you are posting a tutorial see to it that you put your water mark in all the photographs as there are some people who are doing cut, copy, paste work and posting it in their blog.I experienced this initially, and its really hurting as you have to spend hours to write a tutorial.I really stopped giving tutorials after that.

So here is my finished card,..lot of pastel n pink shade cards from me in recent past,so i have decided not to use it,..but after seeing PLAY DATE CAFE color challenge i wanted to make one as it is one of my favorite combo:)I promise you to be back with some really dark color combos in future:)))
